Field Service Representative

Advanced Compressor Technology (ACT) is seeking a highly skilled Field Service Representative to join our team. This hands-on role is responsible for providing on-site mechanical service, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of centrifugal and reciprocating compressors at customer locations.
The Field Service Representative will perform installation, disassembly, inspection, repair, reassembly, and overhaul of compressors and other rotating equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications, company procedures, and applicable safety and quality standards.
This position is ideal for an experienced mechanical professional who enjoys solving complex equipment issues, working directly with customers, and performing hands-on field service work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective field service on centrifugal and reciprocating compressors.
- Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble compressor components and equipment while ensuring proper alignment, balance, clearances, and tolerances.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and rotating equipment issues and recommend appropriate repairs.
- Perform field maintenance activities, including equipment installation, removal, repair, and overhaul.
- Remove, clean, inspect, and reinstall compressor rotors and related components.
- Remove, replace, and install gearboxes.
- Inspect bearings, rotor conditions, clearances, mechanical seals, and other critical components.
- Perform compressor repairs requiring equipment disassembly, including mechanical seal removal and installation.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul various compressor types in accordance with manufacturer instructions and company policies.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, service manuals, technical documentation, and equipment specifications.
- Perform machine tool work using lathes, mills, saws, and other equipment as required.
- Maintain safe working conditions by following all company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements.
- Complete production, service, and quality documentation accurately and on time.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed and submit required reports to supervisors.
- Communicate completed work, equipment irregularities, outstanding issues, and continuing service needs between shifts and team members.
- Maintain technical knowledge by participating in training and educational opportunities, reviewing technical publications, and attending applicable seminars or workshops.
- Successfully complete required quarterly and annual job-related assessments, which may include written quizzes, hands-on evaluations, verbal protocols, and other competency assessments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have hands-on mechanical experience with compressors or rotating equipment, including experience with the disassembly, inspection, alignment, repair, and reassembly of major components such as:
- Rotors
- Bearings
- Gearboxes
- Mechanical seals
- Other compressor and rotating equipment components
Successful candidates must also possess:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, service manuals, and technical documentation.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, and equipment overhauls.
- Ability to accurately document service activities, findings, repairs, and completed work.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality, and adherence to established procedures.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a field service team.
- Ability to work effectively in industrial and customer-site environments.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing technical training and competency assessments.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required to support customer field service operations.
