Field Technician

Advanced Compressor Technology (ACT) is seeking a highly skilled Field Technician to join our manufacturing team. The Field Mechanic is responsible for providing on-site mechanical service, maintenance, and repair of centrifugal and reciprocating compressors at customer locations. This role focuses on field-based troubleshooting, installation, disassembly, inspection, repair, and overhaul of rotating equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company procedures. The Field Mechanic works independently and as part of a service team to ensure equipment reliability, safe operation, and customer satisfaction while adhering to all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilites
• Service and provide preventive and corrective field mechanical service on Centrifugal and Reciprocating compressors.• Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
• Field maintenance tasks including equipment troubleshooting, installation/removal, repair
• May be required to perform machine tool work using lathes, mills, saws, etc.
• Remove and clean compressor rotors
• Replace and install gear boxes
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings
• Inspecting equipment by checking bearing clearances rotor conditions, etc.
• Install, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and repair, and overhaul various types of compressors following manufacturer's instructions and/or company polices;
• Perform compressor repairs with disassembly (including mechanical seal removal)
• Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
• Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
• Maintain accurate record keeping, reports and send reports to supervisor
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational and training opportunities; reading technical publications, attending seminars or workshops.
• Will be required to perform quarterly & annually work-related assessments such as quizzes, hands-on test, verbal protocol and etc. to ensure
• Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have hands-on mechanical experience with compressors or rotating equipment, including disassembly, inspection, alignment, and reassembly of major components such as rotors, bearings, gearboxes, and mechanical seals. The position requires the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, service manuals, and technical documentation, perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs in the field, and accurately document completed work. Strong troubleshooting skills, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work safely in industrial environments are essential. Candidates must be willing to participate in ongoing training, assessments, and travel as required to support field service operations.
